"I have been thinking for several weeks about how I should write all this out. So, instead of taking any of the thought process into consideration, I’ve decided to just go with it.

This album has wanted to be written for almost four years now. The reason why it has taken so long, is because all the ideas I had in my head had no place with the current skills I had at the time. In fact, I had only flirted with making music on the computer on and off as a hobby for several months prior.

I’m glad I made this album finally, but the reason why it’s even here is… well, something I wish never happened.

A friend died almost four years ago. In fact, I originally planned to release this on that date (05/03/2010), but I have my reasons for not doing it; there will be something else that will take that date instead. I’d rather not have my feelings on the events be edged up close to what will be (I am sure) on the opposite side of the spectrum, and maybe even more appropriate for the people who knew her. I don’t even know if the people who knew her as well or better would even find this release something that should be in relation. I respect those individuals, so I’ve stripped away the art I was going to use, and decided to just leave her initials instead.

If you read this, then the ambiguity disappears. Maybe it’ll even leave a stronger impact. I hope so.

This entire album encompasses my feelings about her and what happened on that day. It’s a seamless musical rollercoaster that demands your attention. It’s listening to music for music’s sake; not to drown out silence.

Passatempo: Dresda - Pequod

Na emissão de 21 de Outubro há 3 EP`s + 3 pins para oferecer. Estejam atentos.

Os Dresda são um colectivo italiano sediado em Génova e são um dos projectos mais interessantes do Pós-rock do velho continente. A sua música tem uma elevada componente ambiental e cinemática, facilmente somos envolvidos nas melodias e nas camadas sonoras que Marco D’Oro, Daniel Campagne, Ivan Teso, Marco Cavaleri e Antonio Rodo constroem. Contam com 2 registos, o primeiro ainda "meio lo-fi" data já de 2007 - We are the superfunkers EP e em 2008 editaram Pequod, ambos pela Marsiglia Records. Lembrar que Pequod mereceu reedição este ano na netlabel Romena asiluum.
Pequod é mesmo um dos registos mais interessantes que passaram pelos nossos ouvidos nos últimos tempos e apesar da data da 1ª edição ser Dezembro de 2008, não teremos qualquer problema em colocar Pequod como um dos melhores registos do ano de 2009.
O quinteto italiano tem planos para editar trabalho novo ainda até ao final deste ano, mas com a colaboração e disponibilidade dos Dresda, nós na RU( e no Helicon temos para oferecer a 1ª edição de Pequod em formato físico, sendo que também podem encontrar (facilmente!) e fazer o download legal do EP sem gastar um cêntimo.

1º dia

A 1ª edição do Soundscapes começou com os conimbricenses Alice in Wonderland Syndrome. O quarteto (com uma menina na bateria) tem boas ideias e percebe-se o caminho que quer percorrer. Ainda transpiram alguma inexperiência e têm algumas arestas por limar, nada que o palco não trate de consertar. Uma coisa é certa, crescem a cada passo que dão.

Seguiram-se os Löbo. Concerto explosivo e barulhento. As mãos tocaram tão depressa nas melodias dos teclados como nas distorções da guitarra…a bateria rebenta com o que sobra! Haja energia e até alguma envergadura para aguentar com os socos constantes - um concerto digno de figurar junto de um KO do Joe Frasier.

No final do 1º dia deu-se a incursão mais próxima do Pós-rock. Tocar depois dos Löbo não é fácil, mas os Aspen estiveram a altura. Começaram mais melódicos e acabaram mais ruidosos e explosivos. Foi o projecto com menos elementos em palco (apenas 3), mas nem por isso se encolheram. Mostraram uma atitude incrível e ficou claro que podem crescer ainda mais. A primeira noite foi bem variada no que toca aos géneros percorridos pelas bandas - psicadelismo, doom, metal, rock, pós-rock…afinal andam quase todos de mão dada e não deixou de ser um excelente aperitivo para o segundo dia.

2º dia

Começar por afirmar que seria muito complicado arranjar um line-up melhor do que o que a Artrites nos reservou para o último dia do Soundscapes#1.

Os La Flag abriram as hostilidades com uma performance irrepreensível. Até àquele momento nunca o Soundscapes tinha sido tão melódico e cinemático. As guitarras viajaram pela melodia dedilhada e pelo riff de pelo na venta. Houve bom humor e descontracção de quem parece ter a lição bem estudada – num só acto conseguiram surpreender e confirmar.

Seguiram-se os Katabatic que transformaram o palco da Via Latina num pequeno laboratório de experimentação. Não são os GY!BE, mas pisam um soalho parecido. Há instrumentos de sopro e outros pequenos instrumentos que preenchem as várias camadas do som. Há loops, pausas e riffs poderosos, há voz que é um grito com capacidade de encher os espaços que as guitarras iam abrindo. Em disco constroem paisagens mais serenas, em palco os Katabatic mostraram o que o seu nome denuncia - densidade e potência.

O melhor ficou para o fim, assim manda a tradição. Os The Allstar Project entraram com força e assim continuaram. Espectáculo curto, mas estrondoso. Mais uma visita, a quarta, da banda de Marrazes (Leiria) a Coimbra e houve espaço para tema novo - o sucessor de Your Reward a Bullet virá, talvez, no primeiro trimestre de 2010. A muralha sonora e melodiosa das três guitarras é absolutamente estrondosa e a bateria é sublime. Os The Allstar Project são de outro campeonato - isto parece claro! A qualidade do quinteto é inegável e se ainda havia dúvidas os Marrazenses tiraram-nas todas - são um dos nomes mais importantes do género e ombreiam com o que de melhor se faz fora de Portugal.

O balanço do primeiro Soundscapes é claramente positivo. A Artrites entrou a todo gás conseguindo um cartaz praticamente intocável. A sala de espectáculos da Via Latina não é perfeita, mas mesmo com algumas limitações (sobretudo o diminuto palco) a música e o ambiente dos dois dias de Soundscapes são para recordar. SoundScapes#2…até breve!
